Shopping Local & Meal Planning - Whitley Bay Edition

We're trying to make a conscious effort to support our local businesses this summer and shop local where we can. I'm going to be trying out a few different local traders over the next few months and sharing what works well for us. This week, I'm starting with Whitley Bay which is a town full of local businesses.

Shopping Local & Meal Planning - Whitley Bay Edition

Steve is working until 7:30pm every night this week so unfortunately, the kids will be dining separately to us  - that's just modern life though and although not ideal, you've gotta do what you've gotta do! We're away this weekend and will be dining out so I haven't included plans for the weekend.

Monday:
Us - Calamari Salad (using leftover salad from Friday)
Kids - Freezer Surprise
With us being in Leeds this weekend, I haven't had a chance to pop to the shops and I don't have the car/have too much work to do today so I will just be making the best of what we have in the house already.

Tuesday:
Us - Lemon Pepper Chicken Breasts and Salad
Kids - Tomato Soup and Crusty Bread

Wednesday:
Us - Teriyaki Beef Stir Fry
Kids - Nicholson's Steak Burgers (veggie for Heidi) and Corn on the Cobb

Thursday:
Chicken Breast in Honey & Mustard with New Potatoes and Asparagus/Green Beans
Kids - Pasta Bake

Friday:
No plans yet - I think we might make our own pizzas but whatever we do, I'll be buying something on Friday morning.

Nicholson's Butchers Click & Collect Service

I've ordered our meat (plus bacon and eggs for Saturday) using Nicholson's Butchers new click and collect service. You simply order online, pay a £10 deposit and then collect in store and pay the final balance the following day. It's super easy! We've tried a few things from Nicholson's before and everything is always very good quality.

Shopping Local & Meal Planning - Whitley Bay Edition

Whilst I'm in Whitley Bay collecting my order tomorrow I'm going to pop to Tom Owen's for my fruit and veg. I still have to find a bakery in Whitley Bay for our bread though - any recommendations?

I will need to do a supermarket shop still but hopefully, it will be fairly small - mostly for yoghurts, juice and sandwich fillers for the kids' packed lunches.

I've linked up to Katy Kicker's Meal Planning Linky if you fancy a quick nosey at some other ideas.

What's on the menu for you this week? Any other local businesses I should visit for my grocery shopping in Whitley Bay tomorrow?

  1. I love that you're doing this. I don't live local to me but you're encouraging me to want to do the same once we move house!

  2. Such a great meal plan! Everything sounds so tasty and it's fab that you are supporting local businesses.
I am off to our local butchers tomorrow to get some sausages as they're supposed to be amazing x

  3. We have a butchers and small independent shop in the village and I don’t use them as much as I should. This has definitely encouraged me to shop local more, plus meat from the butchers is so much nicer than the supermarkets! X

  4. Shopping local is something which I would love to do more. This is something which I may have to look into August when I have a lot of time x
