Staying in & Going Out - The Best Date Ideas in North East England for February 2018

I can't believe that January is FINALLY over! I am so happy that it's February now and we have lots to look forward to including Pancake Day, Valentine's Day and Half Term. I'm really hoping we can squeeze a couple of date nights into this month - I want to finally try Dabbawal after so many people have raved about it and we fancy another night at a comedy club too. Let's hope we make it!

Meals Out

We've been desperately trying to save money at the moment and have only enjoyed one meal out. It was a good one though and I urge everyone to check out the fantastic lunch menu at Bouchon Bistrot in Hexham. The service was flawless and the food absolutely divine!

We're celebrating Valentine's Day at Evan's Bistro in Whitley Bay this year and can't wait. We don't normally go out but as Valentine's Day falls in Half Term this year, the kids can sleep at Grannie and Grandads. Yeah! I intend on making the most of it. Their Valentine's Menu is priced at £50 per couple and includes 3 courses plus a glass of Prosecco.  The menu really looks fantastic and I know we're going to be spoilt for choice. I *think* I'm going to go for Seared King Scallops, Sirloin Steak and Melt in the Middle Chocolate Fondant. I can't wait!

One of my other favourite restaurants, Tapas Revolution, is also offering a special Valentine's Day Menu with 3 courses and Sangria available for £25 pp. Featuring Iberian Ham, Tiger Prawns and even a heart dhaped chocolate brownie to share, it sounds perfect.

North East Hotels

We're spoilt for choice when it comes to hotel deals in the North East this month. My top pick would be Valentine's Day at Rockliffe Hall. Rockliffe Hall is my favourite luxury hotel in the North East and if you really want to indulge and treat yourself, you won't be disappointed. There's lots on offer from Valentine's Day Dinner to Spa Days but if you really want to treat your loved-one, I'd recommend you opt for their Valentine's Vacation. This special package includes an overnight stay, Champagne, Spa access, a Rasul Mud Experience, Three Course Dinner, Rose Petals on the bed at turndown and breakfast the following morning. Bliss! Find out more here.

Another hotel deal which has caught my eye this month is this luxury Valentine's package at Malmaison which includes a cocktail, champagne, overnight accommodation, a 3-course dinner and breakfast. The Malmaison breakfast really is superb and the best way I've started the day in a long time.

If you fancy something a little different, Hotel Du Vin is running a special Suite offer where you can stay in one of their luxurious suites and champagne afternoon tea and breakfast the following morning from just £174 per room. We stayed in one of Hotel Du Vin's suites a few years ago and left feeling truly spoilt.

Staying in

We've still really been enjoying ordering our Gousto Boxes recently - you can pick a dish for 2-4 people and everything you need will arrive in one box (and it's all perfectly measured out so there's less waste). There's lots of choice including family meals, speedy suppers and healthy choices. If you sign up here using my referral link you will receive 50% discount off your first two boxes. You can easily cancel online at any time and just order on an ad-hoc basis like I do. This week, the whole family will be trying Buffalo Chicken and Sweet Potato Chips and a Sausage and Root Veg Tray Bake.

If you don't have a babysitter this Valentine's Day or can't face going out, Check out these Valentine's Hampers by M&S. Perfect for making a night in front of the TV that little bit more special.

Something to read?

Here are a few of my favourite blog posts I've read recently. Put the kettle on and have a read this weekend:

Let me know what you're up to this month and if I've inspired you to try something new.

  1. Is Half Term extra early this year? I thought it was usually very late in Feb? We haven't decided what we're doing for Valentines yet, we usually stay in and then maybe do a date night earlier or later in the week. Saying that, that Hotel Du Vin offer looks very tempting!

  2. So many great ideas Sam, and thanks for mentioning my blog post. I’d happily do any of these! We’ve got a sitter for Lena on 17th but not Arlo so think it will be a night in for us for valentine’s.
